Focus of the Month: Asperger
Asperger Syndrome is named after the Austrian pediatrician Hans Asperberger. In his pediatric practice he documented the behavior of some of his patients in which he noted the symptoms that are associated today with this Austistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) named after him. The behaviors documented by Dr Asperberger included: lack of empathy, lack of eye contact, clumsiness in motor skills, stereotyped behavior or language use, repetitive or obsessive interests and difficulty in social interaction. It is believed that the condition is genetically based and is caused by some variance from the norm of the neurological functions performed by the nervous system organs of the person with the condition.
